MISSIONS and ministries

The First Presbyterian Church of Walla Walla is committed to missions and ministries both at home and abroad. Our efforts to demonstrate Christ's love for the world are through witnessing, evangelizing and equipping.  We believe in spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ by supporting various mission organizations at home and throughout the world.  Listed below are missions and ministries our church and church members are involved with.

Local Missions

        Intervarsity Christian Fellowship

A ministry of spreading the Gospel on college campuses, our church has long been involved with Inter-Varsity.  Angela Rajnus leads a team of dedicated student leaders locally on the Whitman College Campus.

    Christian Aid Center

Another local agency seeking to aid those less fortunate in our community provides meals and overnight housing, the Christian Aid Center is also a part of our regular mission giving.  The Presbyterian Women’s organization has also provided funds and continues to collect personal items on a monthly basis for the Women’s Center.  Our congregation provides a dinner each month with volunteers from the church doing the cooking and serving.

        Helpline

Following the inception of Helpline a number of years ago, churches developed a way of working together to benefit those individuals in our community who need help.   Helpline serves as a clearinghouse and referral core center in our community as well as providing funds directly.  The agency offer assistance  to the elderly on limited incomes unable to afford prescriptions, young mothers with children, and unemployed people without local families.  Strangers who walk into our church office each week are greatly served by the presence of Helpline in Walla Walla.

        Pantry Shelf Food Bank

Housed in our church’s basement, the Pantry Shelf is a shared local food bank.  We support this endeavor through regular mission giving, special offerings, and collections of food on the first Sunday of each month. The assistance is also in conjunction with our Sunday School department.  The Pantry Shelf also works closely with Helpline.

        Matthew House

This Christian organization located in the Seattle area buses wives and children to Walla Walla to visit inmates incarcerated at the Washington State Prison.  Families are allowed an overnight visit on the third Saturday of each month.  Our church provides sleeping space in the basement for wives and children.
